Women often tolerate outstanding ears better than men because they can hide the ‘deformity’ with their hair. Sometimes the projection is so extreme that the ears can actually part the hair as with certain characters featured in ‘Lord of the Rings.’ Some patients would like to wear their hair in an ‘up-do’ but are prevented because of embarrassment with their prominent ears. A setback otoplasty is the solution as seen in this 44 year-old female.
