Facial aging is discernible by the presence of fine lines, wrinkles, deep creases, and sagging cheeks and jowls. Various non-surgical and minimally invasive procedures have been developed over the course of recent decades to address many of these issues. However, for years, facelift surgery was the only way to lift the sagging underlying tissues of the mid face and jowls. With the development of Silhouette InstaLift™ by Thermi®, the sagging mid face region can be rejuvenated without invasive surgery. Called “The Facelift of the Future,” Silhouette InstaLift™ is a minimally invasive procedure that lifts the deeper tissue layers of the mid face and jowls to improve facial contours and reverse signs of aging. Aging and gravity combine forces to pull the facial tissues downward. Over the years, the mid face region loses its youthful height and definition as the sagging tissues plummet toward the jawline. Silhouette InstaLift™ rejuvenates the face by correcting sagging skin in this precise area. The procedure lifts and re-contours the mid face while stimulating collagen production for long-lasting results. Judicious placement of the support sutures at a lower level does the same for the jowls.
Wrinkles around the nose and mouth, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines, are a common sign of aging. These lines tend to become increasingly deeper with time. Lifting the tissues of the mid face reduces the presence of these wrinkles and restores a younger appearance.
Many individuals who have sagging skin in the mid face region retain good skin quality and thickness. While patients who have severely thinning and sagging skin may require facelift surgery, those who have moderate skin thickness and health can enjoy the benefits of Silhouette InstaLift™. This procedure can lift the skin to rejuvenate the appearance of the mid and lower face.
Not all individuals who are interested in anti-aging treatments will be ideal candidates for facelift surgery or facial injectables. A traditional facelift is an invasive surgery with a recovery period that some patients cannot or do not want to undergo. Likewise, patients who could benefit from facial injectables may not be interested in the long-term maintenance treatments that they require. For these individuals, Silhouette InstaLift™ provides a perfect solution to effectively correct mid face and jowl sagging with no surgery and long-lasting results.
Silhouette InstaLift™ is a comfortable, office treatment that typically lasts 45 minutes. The surgeon gently inserts a needle into the treatment area and guides it through the subcutaneous tissue. Sutures with bidirectional cones are used to elevate the skin of the mid face and cheeks. The subdermal tissue is repositioned on the bidirectional cones, which hold the skin in an elevated position. The biomedical copolymer of Silhouette InstaLift™ mechanically fixates the tissue until the sutures are reabsorbed and collagen production increases. At this point, the patient’s own tissues assume the responsibility of holding the skin in a more youthful position. The procedure has immediately noticeable, natural-looking results that improve over the following three months as more collagen is produced. The results and effects of Silhouette InstaLift™ gradually and naturally improve the volume and shapeliness of the face, restoring youthful and pleasing facial definition.
Silhouette InstaLift™ has minimal or no recovery time. Patients may experience nominal acute tissue inflammation as a reaction to the procedure, accompanied by minor pain, bruising, swelling, and redness. Patients can return to their normal routines with minimal downtime.
There are no surgical incisions for Silhouette InstaLift™. Patients will not have scars after the procedure.
The cost of Silhouette InstaLift™ varies depending on the patient’s needs and the number of sutures required for the procedure. On average, the cost of Silhouette InstaLift™ is approximately one third the cost of a facelift. Dr. Boyd will provide you with a price estimate during your initial consultation with him.
The Silhouette InstaLift™ treatment is said to be comfortable and requires no general anesthesia, with only three cc of local anesthesia used to prevent discomfort during the treatment. Some patients may experience minor discomfort associated with tissue inflammation for a short period after the procedure.
Good candidates for this procedure are interested in a minimally invasive anti-aging solution for mid face, jowl, and/or cheek sagging. Candidates should have good skin quality, and they are likely to have noticeable nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
Some patients who desire facial rejuvenation are not good candidates for facelift surgery. However, many of these individuals may be candidates for Silhouette InstaLift™. Dr. Boyd can determine whether this procedure is the best treatment plan for your anti-aging needs.
Silhouette InstaLift™ requires only local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. No general anesthesia is used.
After the procedure, some patients may experience inflammation characterized by minor discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the treated area. Other potential side effects include material sensitivity, allergic reactions, sensory nerve injury, banding, or asymmetry. Side effects are uncommon, and most side effects dissipate shortly after the procedure. Dr. Boyd can discuss these with you in greater detail during your personal consultation.
Silhouette InstaLift™ was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2015 for safe use as an anti-aging treatment. The procedure uses sutures made from glycolide/L-lactide (PLGA), a polymer that is well tolerated and has a history of popular use in many medical devices.
