Microneedling

Microneedling is a popular treatment designed to enhance the look, feel, and texture of the skin. This minimally invasive procedure provides striking results that can take years off a patient’s appearance. Microneedling can target areas like the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, and abdomen.

Thanks to the expertise of Dr. Brian Boyd’s cosmetic team, achieving a more youthful aesthetic is more attainable than ever.

What Can Microneedling Treat?

  • Poor Skin Texture

Most people struggle with acne, scarring, and stretch marks. Microneedling treatments can address poor skin texture by smoothing bumps and scars to restore youthful-looking skin.

  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles

As we age, our skin begins to develop fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration. Microneedling acts as a dermal rejuvenation technique to correct skin imperfections that have worsened over time.

  • Sagging Skin

Collagen and elastin are the building blocks of our skin. As we age, these proteins diminish, causing our skin to sag. Microneedling promotes collagen and elastin production.

What Is the Microneedling Process?

Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Boyd will discuss your medical history and examine the potential areas to be treated. He will determine which would benefit from the microneedling treatment and how many sessions may be required.

Procedure

Microneedling uses fine needles mounted on rollers to create hundreds of small punctures in the skin’s surface. These micro-wounds encourage the body’s natural healing mechanisms to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

Once the skin heals, it takes on a healthier and more youthful appearance.

Environ®

For the best possible outcomes, Dr. Boyd utilizes Environ® topical products, as well as LightStim LED Light Therapy.

Benefits of using this specialized equipment include:

  • Quicker recovery
  • Restored skin tightness
  • Reduction of blemishes

The technique of using microneedling together with Environ® is an alternative to microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Environ® is a less expensive option that serves the same purpose and provides clinically proven results.

Results

The rejuvenating effects of microneedling can result in a more even skin tone, tighter skin, better skin texture, and an overall rejuvenated look.

Most patients are happier with their appearance after receiving microneedling.

Patients can increase the quality of their results by combining their Environ® microneedling with a skin care routine specific to each individual. Results show that a three-week pre and post treatment of vitamins A and C can quadruple the amount of collagen that is produced.

Addressing Your Concerns

Since microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment, there is little to no downtime.

In some cases, microneedling is combined with special serums to speed up the healing process. During your recovery, you must protect your skin from the sun because the skin’s sensitivity will be increased.

It is rare to develop scarring after a microneedling. This treatment creates superficial wounds, and they are not often not severe enough to create lasting scars.

The cost of your microneedling treatment will depend on the extent of correction, and the number of sessions needed to achieve the desired results.

Your microneedling treatment can range from $250 to $700 per session. You will be provided with a more accurate cost estimate during your consultation with Dr. Boyd. Finance options are available for qualifying patients.

You may experience minor redness and swelling that will diminish after two or three days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be applied after microneedling to stimulate collagen production further. This addition adds a considerable expense, and there is no concrete evidence that proves it advances microneedling results.

You may be the right candidate for microneedling if you have a desire to improve your skin’s health and overall appearance.

Additionally, most candidates interested in this procedure:

  • Wish for improvement of the skin’s texture, tone, and feel
  • Have mild to moderate skin laxity
  • Desire to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

The duration of each microneedling session varies depending on the individual’s desired goals and the size of the treatment area. Typically, sessions take 30 minutes to an hour.

Depending on the severity of corrections needed, many patients elect to have multiple treatments to enhance their potential outcomes. Most patients undergo four to six sessions.

Improvements in the quality and condition of the skin vary depending on several factors.

The number of procedures, differences in skin quality, and severity of sun damage can all influence how long the beneficial effects of microneedling treatments can last. Periodic touch-ups are often recommended to maintain the best possible appearance of facial skin tone and texture.

Developing significant side effects after microneedling is unlikely; however, as with any cosmetic treatment, it is possible.

Possible side effects include:

  • Minor skin irritation
  • Bleeding
  • Bruising
  • Peeling

Microneedling is a versatile treatment that can improve more areas than just the face.

Microneedling can also target the:

  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Hands
  • Stomach
  • Back
  • Legs
